CHOLERA CONTINUES TO KILL PEOPLE ALL OVER ETHIOPIA
The EPRP strongly condemns the Meles Zenawi regime that has not only exposed the Ethiopian people to a cholera epidemic but has ordered doctors and health officers to deny the epidemic is cholera lest it loses revenue for foreign tourists. Hundreds have died from the cholera epidemic referred to by the regime falsely as "diarrhoea".
The Meles regime has in the past 18 years totally damaged the health system of the country. Moreover the scarcity of water even in the capital city is now an open secret.
Deplorable conditions of hygiene, lack of cleaning water, more than half a million people destitute and sleeping on the streets, open sewage, etc... the epidemic was waiting to happen. However, instead of declaring a cholera emergency and trying to combat it the Meles regime has opted to deny that there is cholera in the country just as it had tried in the past, through the mouth of Meles Zenawi, to deny there is drought and famine (close to 14 million people now need food aid).
The EPRP calls on international NGOs and bodies to mobilise to expose and fight the cholera epidemic in Ethiopia which continues to kill dozens and more every single day since a month or so ago.
